General Information for School Bus Transportation
Bus drivers have the same authority on the bus that classroom teachers and school personnel have in the classroom or on the school campus. Students who ride the bus are under the supervision of the driver. The bus is an extension of the school campus.
Students behaving carelessly not only endanger their own safety but also endanger the safety of others.
Large items will not be allowed on the bus. Items must fit under the seat or in the student’s lap.
For safety, kindergarten students must be met at the bus stop by a parent/guardian, unless an older sibling rides the same bus and accompanies them home. Kindergarten students will not be left alone. They will be returned to school.
When the bus driver reports a bus infraction, the procedures listed below will be followed. The transportation department will collaborate with the school administration to determine appropriate consequences.
Infractions of School Bus Rules
First Offense – The transportation department will contact the parent/guardian to report misconduct and provide a warning for misconduct. If the misconduct is severe in nature, a “Bus Conduct Referral” will be sent to the school administration, and consequences may be imposed in collaboration with the transportation department.
Additional Offenses – A “Bus Conduct Referral” will be sent to campus administration. The transportation department and school administrators will review the offense together. Administration retains the right to use discretion in interpreting policy and issuing consequences for misconduct.
Vandalism to the bus, such as tearing or cutting seats, breaking windows, dismantling seats, writing on a bus surface, etc., will be reported to the school administrator, and a “Criminal Damage to Property” report will be filed with the Farmington Police Department. The parent/guardian will be held financially responsible for damage incurred by the vandalism. Students may be denied bus privileges until restitution is made.
