Class 6A football has been reduced from four districts to three and is welcoming one newcomer in Piedra Vista. (It is losing Capital.) FMS In The News: Nearly 200 future mechanics take part in skills competition at San Juan College Automotive and diesel repair students square off against each other. By Mike Easterling, Farmington Daily Times. The winners of Friday’s competition will advance to the state competition at Central New Mexico Community College in April. The first-place winners were Thomas Pipkin of San Juan College in the post-secondary automotive division, Todd Wedel of the Career Enrichment Center in Albuquerque in the high school automotive division, Andrew Stoner of San Juan College in the post-secondary diesel division and Rylan Darnell of San Juan College High School in the high school diesel division. With a time of 19:16.22, Piedra Vista’s Nicole Pierce took third-place honors ahead of Rio Rancho’s Mariah Galbraith (19:28.47) and Farmington’s Madison Germaine (19:33.46). Farmington’s Germaine also turned in a new PR, improving her mark by almost a minute. We want to share some exciting news with our FMS community. Ms. Marletta Newman, who has been teaching music at Mesa View Middle School for 22 years, has received a special honor. She has been inducted into the New Mexico Music Educators Association Hall of Fame! At FMS, we value music because it helps our students and staff be more creative, and music plays a significant role in our school community. In the picture, you can see that Ms. Newman (front and center) was recognized by the FMS Board of Education during their September meeting with Superintendent Cody Diehl. Daniel Fear, our Coordinator of Fine Arts, had the honor of presenting this well-deserved recognition to Ms. Newman. Congratulations once again to Ms. Newman for this fantastic achievement!

They're going to start tearing down the old college buildings beginning tomorrow, August 9, 2023. Parking should be available in the lot behind the old buildings.
