FMS In The News – Scorpions Dominate Rio Rancho 74-61, Tie For First In District. By Walter Dorman, San Juan County Sports. The Farmington Scorpions turned a heartbreaking one-point road loss into a statement home victory Thursday night, defeating the Rio Rancho Rams 74-61 at Scorpion Arena in a battle of the top two teams in 5A girls basketball. The win moves Farmington into a tie for first place in district play at 5-1 and showed just how dangerous the Scorpions can be when they play together. Senior Kjani Anitielu led the Scorpions with 13 points, while Dale, Chenoa Parrish, and Carley Conly each finished with 12. FMS In The News – Lock bags, front office emails: New Mexico educators' fight against cellphones in classrooms. By André Salkin, Santa Fe New Mexican. At Hermosa Middle School in Farmington, Principal Kyle Haws said a stricter approach has been surprisingly effective. Students must place phones in lockers at the start of the day. If a phone appears in class, teachers email the front office rather than confronting students directly. Birth Certificate Replacement & Children's Flu Shots Event: Farmington High School (Parking Lot), Thursday, December 18, from 3-5 p.m. The New Mexico Department of Health Vital Records team will be offering replacement birth certificates for those born in New Mexico. The search fee is $10 for one certificate. Identification is required (driver's license, Social Security cards, Medicaid IDs, Tribal IDs). Children's Flu shots available while supplies last (parental consent required).

The NM Public Education Department’s Office of Special Education is offering parents and caregivers 90-minute virtual sessions designed to empower families to navigate the special education process. The sessions will cover understanding special education rights, navigating Individualized Education Programs, fostering effective communication with schools, and preparing for key transitions in your child’s educational journey. The first Family Learning Virtual Session is this Wednesday, November 19, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. The district has reserved a meeting room at our Central Office (3401 E. 30th Street) for families who wish to attend. To sign up for these virtual sessions, please complete the Family Learning Virtual Sessions Registration Form.

Throughout November, we are recognizing the history, culture, and contributions of Indigenous people to our district and school communities. A highlight of the month is #NativeAmericanWeek, which starts today with Roc Your Mocs!
