School Transfers and Sports Eligibility: Do's & Don'ts

Quick Checklist for Parents

DO

  • Contact your school's Athletic Director as soon as you start considering a transfer. They are your best resource.

  • Check your child's club or AAU coaching staff and potential association with a high school program. A connection to a high school coach or program can affect eligibility.

  • Confirm which high school your 8th grader's middle school feeds into.

  • Ask the Athletic Director for a meeting if you have questions.

DON'T

  • Contact high school coaches to discuss transferring, playing time, or roster spots. They are not allowed to answer these questions.

  • Ask other players, parents, or booster club members to speak to a coach on your behalf.

  • Accept discounted camps, free training, or gear during this process.

  • Schedule campus or facility tours through a coach or booster. All visits must go through the school office.

Have Questions?

Please contact your school's Athletic Director before starting a transfer. They can walk you through what is best for your child.

Thank you for helping us keep FMS sports fair and successful.
