Apache Celebrates Culture and Community with a Beautiful Schoolwide Powwow

Apache Elementary hosted a beautiful powwow on November 19. The celebration was guided by our emcee, Mr. Erny Zah, and filled with the powerful heartbeat of the drum group 51 North. Families and students enjoyed vibrant performances of the Fancy Shawl dance, the Jingle Dress dance, Women’s and Men’s Traditional dance, and the Men’s Fancy dance. Each performance offered our students a meaningful look at the richness of Native culture and the history behind every dance.

Just like last year, the event ended with everyone joining together in the Round Dance. Having students, teachers, and staff dancing together created a moment of warmth that many of us will remember for a long time.

We want to share a special appreciation for all of the dancers who made the day unforgettable. We are especially proud of our own first-grade teacher, Ms. Davonne John, along with students Amaris Laselute (third grade) and Hunter Johnson (fifth grade). Amaris shared her talent in the Jingle Dress dance, and Hunter with the Men’s Fancy dance. Their dedication and pride shone through every step. Nice work, Tigers!

Thank you to everyone who attended and supported this celebration of culture, community, and tradition.
