The Farmington Municipal Schools has updated the “Asbestos Management Plan” as required by the Environmental Protection Agency, Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA). The original “Asbestos Management Plan” was prepared by R & H Associates, Inc., an EPA-accredited consulting firm in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was updated in 2003, 2008, and 2011 by Contract Environmental Services of Farmington and then by Asbestos Consulting of Lovington, New Mexico in 2014, 2017, and 2020. The new 3-year Farmington Municipal Schools asbestos re-inspection report was completed in October 2023 by AnE Consulting, Inc. of El Paso, Texas.
The “Plan” lists whether asbestos is located in a Farmington school and what action will be taken with regard to control of the asbestos. A copy of the “Plan” is available at the FMS Plant Operations office located at 2855 Southside River Road, Farmington, NM 87401.
The Maintenance Department will inspect the asbestos area every 6 months. A copy of the six-month inspection is available at the FMS Plant Operations office and the Principal’s office at each school.
Asbestos abatement is an ongoing process at Farmington schools and is usually done in conjunction with renovations such as HVAC upgrades, carpet replacement, etc. Country Club Elementary School is scheduled for a partial floor replacement during the unoccupied periods of the 2025-2026 school year. Farmington Municipal Schools encourages you to take the time to review the “Plan” and become acquainted with the asbestos situation in your schools. Our first concern is to maintain the safety of all
students, teachers, and staff members of the Farmington Municipal Schools.
If you have any questions concerning asbestos in your school, please contact Mr. Isaac Gamboa at 324-9840 ext. 3208 or Mr. Charles VandenBroeck at 599-8621 at ext. 2104.
