07/08/2025: Board of Education Recap

At today’s Board of Education meeting, the Board took the first step in reviewing five important policies. These policies are still under consideration, and this reading was the first part of the approval process. Here’s a quick look at what was discussed:

  • Policy E-0550 on Emergency Preparedness: Creating a clear and tactical emergency response plan for all schools.

  • Policy I-0050 on Instructional Goals: Ensuring students build strong communication skills as part of their learning.

  • Policy I-6800 on Progress Reports: Keeping families regularly updated every three weeks and at least four times a year, on how their students are doing with key academic concepts and work habits.

  • Policy J-5440 on Cardiac Emergency Response: Every school will have at least one automated external defibrillator (AED) on site.

  • Policy J-6700 on Parental Guidance for Water Safety: Promoting safe practices around water to keep students safe in and around pools, rivers, and other water environments. This policy would be added to the FMS Parent-Student Handbook.

The Board also reviewed the Farmington Municipal Schools Strategic Plan, which is aligned to and works towards four strategic priorities: Safe, Supportive and Collaborative Culture, Effective Teaching in Every Classroom, Guaranteed, Viable and Equitable Curriculum and Standards Referenced Reporting Systems.

General Obligation (GO) Bond

In addition, the Board passed a resolution to place a General Obligation (GO) Bond question on the November 4, 2025, ballot. If approved, this bond would raise $30 million without increasing taxes.
