Nevaeh and her mother, Ms. Norma Boo, recently participated in a special Moccasin Making Workshop at Tibbetts Middle School. They joined to learn how to create their own moccasins at home—a skill rooted in tradition and craftsmanship. Originally planned as a two-day event, the workshop extended over four afternoons, allowing families more time to complete their projects and learn about the rich history of the Navajo Pueblo moccasin.
The workshop was led by siblings Ms. Carmen and Mr. Anthony Lee from Shiprock, who both brought knowledge and heart to this experience. Mr. Lee shared his unique teaching approach—“taking it apart and putting it back together”—and emphasized that everyone finds their own method when learning something new. He was encouraged by the positive energy and enthusiasm in his first-ever class.
In total, nearly 20 families took part in this hands-on experience. Our hope is that the moccasin-making skills learned will continue to be passed down from generation to generation.
A heartfelt THANK YOU to our Native American Programs team for organizing another wonderful opportunity for students and families to connect, learn, and grow together.
