This morning, the library at Mesa Verde Elementary transformed into a buzzing courtroom theater for "In the Hot Seat: Bear'ly Legal," a clever and comedic spin on the classic Goldilocks tale. The 5th-grade production reimagines Goldilocks on trial for breaking and entering the Bear family’s home, and the result is a delightful blend of fairy tale and courtroom drama.
The story unfolds through a series of humorous flashbacks, with standout performances from Aidan as Papa Bear, Ruby as Mama Bear, and Aubree as outraged Baby Bear Tiffanni. Kyan brings sharp detective energy as Chief Investigator Robin D. Banks, while Blake adds flair as the sly Big Bad Wolf Patrick Ma-bones.
Hope shines in the title role of Goldilocks, portraying her with a mix of innocence and mischief. The supporting cast adds plenty of flavor: Quinnten gets laughs as the eccentric Doctor Izzy Gone, Whitney is fierce as District Attorney Casey Closed, Lucian delivers legal gravitas as Holden Grudges, Attorney at Law, Cara keeps the courtroom in order as Bailiff Pickles, and Immanuel commands the bench as the testy Judge Kent B. Write.
The entire production, developed since Spring Break, shows our students’ dedication and creativity. From the jury ensemble reactions to the cross-examinations, every young actor brought enthusiasm and talent to the stage.
Special applause goes to Ms. Katrina Ortiz for directing and producing this imaginative show. “Bear'ly Legal proves that with the right mix of wit, teamwork, and heart, every library can become the stage for something magical.
