We are proud to announce that 32 students from Farmington Municipal Schools—including Piedra Vista High School, Farmington High School, and San Juan College High School—will be awarded the New Mexico State Seal of Bilingualism and Biliteracy this year.
This special recognition honors students who have demonstrated proficiency in two or more languages. Of this year’s recipients, 29 students earned the seal in Spanish, one in Chinese, and one in Diné (Navajo). You can view the full list of students below.
Last year, 23 students received the seal—22 in Spanish and one in Navajo—showing continued growth in our bilingual programs.
A special congratulations goes to Winston Lam (top photo) from San Juan College High School, who is making history as the first FMS student to receive the State Seal in Chinese.
Winston is not only a standout student but also an exceptional musician—he plays both piano and violin and often performs with the San Juan College Orchestra. Guests at the SJCHS graduation ceremony will have the treat of hearing him play the National Anthem on piano.
Winston’s accomplishments don’t stop there: he is a proud member of the National Honor Society, helps lead the Asian-American Representation Club, and even founded the Agriculture Club at San Juan College.
This May, Winston will graduate with an Associate of Science in Medical Science from San Juan College, and he’s set to continue his journey in the medical field at the University of New Mexico.
