Native American Programs Survey Results

Last December, Native American Programs (NAP) surveyed Native families in an effort to identify the specialized and unique needs of students enrolled in Farmington Municipal Schools. The results of the survey are available here.

The survey gathered 184 responses, and it was presented during NAP’s Public Hearing on January 10, including important details about the Impact Aid Grant, JOM Grant, and Title VI Grant. Here are a few more details:

In question 3 about how students get to school, most parents or guardians (60%) mentioned that they drop off their children. Other responses included students taking the bus (42%) and walking to school (13%). FMS Native American Programs is delving deeper into this topic. More to come.

For question 11 regarding the academic needs of students, the top responses were Navajo Language (66%), Math (63), and Language Arts (59%).

In question 12 about prevention services, the top concerns were bullying (90%) and mental health awareness (80%).

Nearly 50 individuals, including representatives from the New Mexico Department of Education, attended the hearing in-person or via Zoom.
