FMS Earth Day Challenge  2023 – (Third Year)

On Earth Day 2023, all Farmington Municipal School students were given planting kits with zinnia and sugar snap pea seeds. Building healthy eating habits begins early, and we hope all our students grow to love eating fruits and vegetables for the rest of their lives. The Earth Day Challenge is to plant your growing seeds at your home, in a pot, or in the ground and document your success.

Contestants will upload a one-minute (or less) video of the growth of their plant or a PowerPoint presentation with color pictures to document the process. We encourage all registered participants to document the process of growing their plant from germination through getting sugar snap peas and how they love to eat them. Our three winners will be announced at the Local Food Summit event in July!  

Contestants must register between May 1, 2023, through May 19, 2023, by completing the online registration. Details & guidance about completing the video/PowerPoint will be sent to all students who register to participate on Monday, June 5, 2023.

Registration information will be available and shared on FMS social media platforms from 5/1/2023 through 5/19/2023.

Dear Educators,

We are excited to announce that we sponsoring our annual Earth Day activity once again!  It is our hope that we can encourage all of our students to develop a love for not only growing their own fresh fruits and vegetables but also eating them at a young age that will carry them into adulthood with healthy eating habits.

Planting kits that include sugar snap peas and zinnia seeds along with a dry soil disc, a small cup will be distributed to all FMS students on Friday, April 21, 2023.  Students will receive their kits during lunch in the cafeteria.  We ask that you plan an Earth Day activity and plant these seeds in class, or assign it as a project to do at home.  Our team has created a short video you can distribute or watch in class.
