A $2.9 Million Commitment to Skilled Trades Education at Farmington Municipal Schools

A $2.9 Million Investment in Skilled Trades Education at Farmington Municipal Schools

FMS is proud to announce that we are the recipients of more than $1.1 million from the NextGen Expansion Grant, funding that will fully equip our brand-new Construction Trades Lab! We are deeply grateful for this incredible opportunity to expand our Career Tech and Work-Based Learning programs and provide students with world-class, industry-ready training resources.

This substantial investment will give students access to high-end machinery, including Caterpillar simulators and specialized industrial power tools for plumbing, HVAC, and electrical work. In addition to stationary equipment, the grant covers trailers and vehicles to support student travel and off-site learning experiences.

The district is investing $1.2 million in a dedicated Construction Skilled Trades Lab, slated to open in Fall 2027. The new facility will be located at the CATE Center, with architectural design already underway, and these new resources integrated into the plans. Bond funds will cover construction costs, while an additional $600,000 for design will come from HB450’s safety and technology funds for state projects.

More details about the Trades Lab will be shared soon. In the meantime, families and staff can rest assured that this investment is designed to create a comprehensive, forward-thinking training environment, one that will prepare the next generation of skilled tradespeople right here in Farmington.
