The FMS Board of Education approved a one-year extension to Superintendent Cody Diehl's contract, which now runs through June 30, 2029, during its regular meeting today.
The Board approved technology surveys to be distributed to teachers and families of students in Pre-K through 5th grade before April 15. The surveys will gather input on the use of technology across FMS elementary schools.
The Board approved the 4th-grade class field trip from Apache Elementary School to Canyon de Chelly National Monument in Apache County, Arizona, on April 30.

The FMS Board of Education celebrated Heights’ Lego Robotics Team for winning the Robot Performance Award at the 2026 FIRST LEGO League Challenge last month. The Board approved the Robotics Team's travel to the 5th Annual American Robotics Invitational, taking place June 6 and 7 at Drew University in Madison, New Jersey. Heights will compete against 70 of the best robotics teams in the country.
The FMS Board of Education recognized Piedra Vista’s Educators Rising and San Juan College High School’s Business Professionals of America (BPA).

PV's Educators Rising had 10 students place at state and advance to nationals, competing in Researching Learning Challenges, Ethical Dilemma, Children's Literature Pre-K Spanish, and Project Visualize. During their presentation, all students shared their aspiration to become teachers. The Board approved their travel to the National competition in Portland, Oregon, taking place June 18 through 24. The Educators Rising 2026 National Conference, themed “Teach with Purpose, Lead with Passion,” will bring together over 3,800 rising educators, teacher leaders, and professional educators from across the country.

SJCHS' BPA also had a successful state competition, qualifying 6 members and bringing home medals, as well as earning Silver Level Chapter of Distinction honors. The Board approved BPA's travel to the National Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, taking place May 6 through 10. This year’s theme, Amplify Your Impact, is a reminder that the skills our students develop, the ideas they share, and the leadership they demonstrate through BPA extend far beyond the conference walls.
The Board will attend the NMSBA Region 1 Board Meeting in Gallup on March 30.
The next Regular Board of Education Meeting is scheduled for April 14, 2026.
