Elementary Students Strengthen Their Voices at the Leadership Conference

Today, students from Animas, Bluffview, Esperanza, McKinley, and MesaVerde participated in the Elementary Student Voices Leadership Conference, a special experience focused on strengthening confidence, character, and leadership skills.

Throughout the day, our students explored what it means to step outside of their comfort zones and into their learning zones in order to grow as learners and as members of their school communities. They discussed the importance of recognizing their strengths and accepting mistakes as part of learning.

Students also learned practical strategies for managing stress and emotions, along with activities that encouraged them to reflect on their goals and dreams for the future with Inspireheart, a highlight of the day. Another highpoint was a lively dance session that taught students how movement and rhythm can be powerful tools for expression, teamwork, and confidence.

To wrap up the experience, students used NMPED’s Equity Storytelling Tool to reflect on what they learned and how they can apply these lessons in their classrooms, friendships, and everyday lives.

Huge kudos to our FMS educators and staff for continuing to create engaging, meaningful, and inspiring events for our students.

A special shout-out to Ms. Erin Gockel, Assistant Director of Enrichment Programs and Teacher Development, Coach Ms. Lacey Fitzgerald, for her keynote address, and Carrazco Dance Productions for sharing their talents and energy with our students.
