Middle School Musicians Inspire Fifth Graders on Recruitment Tour

This week, our middle school bands and orchestras set out on our annual Elementary Recruitment Tour, and it was such an inspiring experience.

During this special event, our middle school musicians visit elementary campuses to perform and connect with our fifth-graders. They share their talents, talk about their experiences in band and orchestra, and explain why they chose to join a music program at Farmington Municipal Schools. Hearing directly from older students helps our fifth graders see what is possible and imagine themselves continuing their musical journey in middle school.

Opportunities like this highlight the power of peer mentorship. Our middle school students are not only developing their musical skills, but also building confidence, leadership, and public speaking abilities as they represent their schools. For our fifth-graders, the performances spark curiosity and excitement about learning an instrument and being part of a team that creates something meaningful together.

Later this year, all fifth-graders will participate in instrument tryouts. This hands-on experience gives students the chance to explore different instruments, discover what fits their interests and abilities, and learn more about the art and discipline of performing music. Music education teaches dedication, collaboration, and perseverance, while also giving students a creative outlet and a strong sense of belonging within their school community.

In the photos, our talented Mesa View students visited Esperanza Elementary, where they performed “Dark Magic” and spoke with students about what music means to them. They were led by Ms. Tamara Schlosser, our Band and Orchestra Director at Mesa View. Ms. Schlosser joined the district in 2021 and has served at Mesa View since 2023. She also supports our high school musicians as the Assistant Band Director at Piedra Vista.

Nice job, Hawks! Nice job, Cougars! Thank you, Music Teachers!
