Students are truly taking flight in Mr. Hughes’ Aviation class at Piedra Vista High School!
Learning in this class is always hands-on and engaging. Students have the exciting opportunity to use a state-of-the-art flight simulator where they can practice real piloting skills. Mr. Hughes even adds fun challenges and obstacles, helping students build confidence and problem-solving skills while preparing them for future aviation interests beyond high school.

The learning does not stop there. Recently, students designed, built, and launched their own rockets. Through this project, they explored aircraft engineering and learned how strong structures play a vital role in successful flight. Using 3D printing software, students designed their rockets and then brought their ideas to life. We also practiced safety during this class, always following instructions carefully, using the right tools, and keeping a safe distance during remote launches.

Mr. Hughes brings a wealth of experience, creativity, and passion to his classroom. A member of the FMS family since 2012, he has created a supportive and inspiring learning environment where students are encouraged to try new things and reach new heights. Be sure to check back soon to see more exciting flight tests from this fabulous lesson!
