MASKED READER

This morning, McCormick Elementary students were treated to an entertaining game of “Guess the Masked Reader,” to kick off the “One School, One Book” initiative. Every year, all McCormick students read the same book as a fun group activity that strengthens literacy and builds a positive school culture.

For today’s game, five teachers and administrators wore the masks of a German shepherd, a horse, a unicorn, a tomato, and a cheeseburger. As the masked booklovers read from their favorite books, the students had to guess who they were with some clues from the hosts.

Our students received a bookmark and a copy of “Bat and the Waiting Game” by Elana K. Arnold, a story about friendship in a series that features a memorable boy on the autism spectrum. The goal for this year is to read three books and also win prizes for answering questions about the content. Good luck, Celtics!

For the past ten years, McCormick teachers and staff have been creating different activities to celebrate the importance of reading. The school either purchases the books or receives them from local partners.

A big shoutout to today's masked readers: Ms. Fernandez, Ms. Anderson, Ms. Alvarez, Ms. Paquin, and Ms. White – they did an awesome job! Kudos also to the McCormick staff for this memorable experience.
