San Juan College High School Executive Internship
San Juan College High School requires that all fourth-year students complete an Executive Internship in the fall or spring semester. SJCHS conducts Executive Internships in conjunction with Farmington Municipal School's Work-Based Learning program.
Students are matched up with a mentor or organization in a field the student is interested in entering. The student is required to complete 30 hours with the organization/business/mentor during the term in which they take an internship. Prior to the beginning of the college term, students are required to attend "boot camp" where they learn more about employability skills, social media presence, and professionalism. They also complete resumes that will be used at mock interviews the following day. The goals of this experience are:
Provide opportunities for students to further investigate career choices they would like to pursue (job shadows may be utilized for the initial stages of career exploration).
Demonstrate the link between high school education and future careers.
Enable students to develop critical skills and be workforce-ready upon completion of formal education/training. Internships provide a “hands-on” or observatory experience that effectively teaches the use of these skills.
Motivate and challenge students to excel in their studies and become responsible, reliable individuals.
Connect students with potential employers and organizations in their selected field of study.
The experience will end with a symposium where each student will briefly speak about their experience.
