Farmington Municipal Schools Opens New Preschool Academy

Today, Farmington Municipal Schools (FMS) celebrated the opening of the Farmington Preschool Academy. This new 51,900-square-foot facility expands access to early childhood education and becomes the largest preschool facility in New Mexico.

FMS Celebrates 23 Chief Manuelito Scholarship Recipients

Congratulations to the FMS students who were awarded the 2026 Chief Manuelito Scholarship this past weekend in Flagstaff, Arizona! Of the 183 students statewide who earned the scholarship this year, 23 are outstanding Farmington Municipal Schools students.

Native American Heritage Month

You're invited! Nihaadiinááł!National Native American Heritage Month is celebrated each year in November. It is a time to honor the traditions, languages, and stories of Native American and Alaska Native communities, and to ensure their rich histories and contributions continue to thrive with each passing generation. This November and every month, we celebrate the culture and heritage of Native Americans, whose traditions deeply enrich the quality and character of our nation.

Ways to Celebrate in Our Schools

The FMS Language & Culture Department plans events throughout the school year and invites insightful guest speakers to share their stories and knowledge with our students during Native American Heritage Month. Past speakers include Sunny Dooley, a Diné storyteller and poet, and Ravis Henry, a Diné historian, storyteller, and silversmith, among others. The department also organizes special themed days, including Moccasin Day, Native Bling Day, Traditional Attire Day, Native Hairstyle or Másání Scarf Day, and Native Design T-Shirt Day.

Locally, the SJC Native American Center typically schedules a variety of events in November to honor Native American Heritage Month, and the Farmington Museum has already listed its dates for the month's programming.
