Farmington Municipal Schools Opens New Preschool Academy

Today, Farmington Municipal Schools (FMS) celebrated the opening of the Farmington Preschool Academy. This new 51,900-square-foot facility expands access to early childhood education and becomes the largest preschool facility in New Mexico.

FMS Celebrates 23 Chief Manuelito Scholarship Recipients

Congratulations to the FMS students who were awarded the 2026 Chief Manuelito Scholarship this past weekend in Flagstaff, Arizona! Of the 183 students statewide who earned the scholarship this year, 23 are outstanding Farmington Municipal Schools students.

Inside Ms. Campbell's Art Classroom

Ms. Campbell's art classroom is never short on creativity.Ladera del Norte, August 2026 - She recently started working with her students on monochromatic collages, giving them the chance to explore a single color through a variety of shades, textures, and materials. Using mixed media and papier collé, students are learning how different materials can come together to create something entirely unique.

A Sense of Ownership

The creativity doesn't stop at the classroom door. Ms. Campbell makes a point of displaying student artwork throughout the school, giving our young artists a chance to see their hard work celebrated while inspiring their classmates to explore their own creativity. Seeing their artwork proudly displayed also helps students build a sense of ownership and pride in what they create.

Families will get to see these incredible pieces and more soon at the upcoming Ladera del Norte 5th Grade Art Show, hosted at the school this spring for the second year in a row. We can't wait to celebrate the wonderful work of her fifth-grade artists and highlight their creativity later this school year!

Ms. Campbell has been part of Farmington Municipal Schools since 2021, sharing her passion for art and helping students discover that creativity has no limits.

Art, music, and performing give students something few other subjects can: a chance to express who they are. Through painting, playing an instrument, singing, or stepping on stage, students learn to communicate feelings and ideas that words alone cannot capture. These experiences build confidence and teach discipline, all while nurturing creativity that carries into every other part of a student's life. Just as importantly, art and music teach our students that these subjects are about sharing and the value of creating.
